The 2023 ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics provided River with an opportunity to present his research and engage with others in this research field.

The poster described how anthocyanins in red cabbage could be structurally interrogated using direct injection ion-mobility mass spectrometry in a high-throughput approach. MS, MS/MS, m/z, drift time and CCS values could be collected for anthocyanins in red cabbage within 2 minutes of data acquisition and these values could then be used to perform rapid identity confirmation of anthocyanins in other Brassica oleracea extracts. This work demonstrates the potential to characterise the polyphenolic composition of plant extracts in a high-throughput approach, which can be used to inform the commercial potential of any given biomass source.
